Agenda Item: X.E.

Consider/Approve Request to Declare Property Surplus and Dispose Via Most Economical Method

Background Information:

The Transportation Department requests the Board to declare surplus six (6) school buses. They are all 2004 model buses. There are three (3), seventy-eight (78) passenger buses, one sixty-six (66) passenger bus, and two (2), thirty (30) passenger special-ed buses.  Although these items are no longer of any use to the Obion County School System, the estimated salvage value of the vehicles is in excess of the value specified in TCA §49-6-2007(d)(1), which states “Surplus personal property in local school systems which has no value or has a value less than two hundred fifty dollars ($250), may be disposed of without the necessity of bids as required by this section.” Therefore, the transportation department asks to dispose of these vehicles while endeavoring to get the best return on them. This will be done by sealed bid, by auction, or by scrap with Board approval.

Staff Recommendation:

I recommend the board declare the above-noted items as surplus and approve the disposition via the most economical method as described above.
